Australian Broadband...

Australian broadband is not fast, nice, sweet, and simple. I consider our country to have a third world internet connection that is similar to Afghanistan, or Iraq. Broadband Internet in Australia is weak because of the larger companies being privatised and not being made public. This has given these 'companies' a chance to pounce and overcharge everyone for Internet since the mid / late nineties.

If you take a look at our options we have all of the below Broadband Internet companies. Both ADSL Broadband Internet, Cable Broadband Internet, and 3G Wireless Broadband Internet.

Internode
TPG Internet
iPrimus
AAPT
Telstra
Optus
iiNet
Netspace
Dodo

Only two out of these primary companies supply 'Cable Internet' (Cable Broadband Internet) as they are the only ones that can really afford to access the fibre optic lines. Both being Telstra (who own the majority stake) and Optus who can afford to rent the lines off Telstra.

We are waiting for T1 / T3 to hit with the new NBN (National Broadband Network) as this will bring our Internet up to standard, but more than likely will be expansive and inaffordable for the average home users when it is first released.

Enjoy my blog about Australia Broadband and feel free to post!
